Dr. Peale explains that to have a wonderful life we must eliminate all antipathy, grudges, jealousy and resentment. We must get a mind and heart full of love and kindness as Jesus had.

Dr. Peale says that Christianity is a science and the church is its laboratory. He thinks that Jesus Christ was the greatest thinker that ever lived. He was a scientist because He laid out formulas that will work when they are worked under appropriate circumstances all the time. Christianity is a workable science. NVP goes on to give us some of those formulas and how to work them.

Dr. Peale says there is one thing that everyone wants and that is to live, really live in all of its fullness. Enthusiasm is life and vitality, in fact the Greek has it that its God in us. It will give you what it takes to overcome failure and ay defeat. NVP says the way to get this enthusiasm is revealed in Ephesians 4:23, “Be ye renewed in the spirit of your mind.” He shares some stories of those who have done this,

Dr. Peale tells us to develop real self-confidence one must build up a body of faith in one’s mind. Ultimately your mind will always give back what you’ve given it. If you constantly read the Bible and associate with spiritual people, you will build such a power in your mind that no matter what crisis may develop, you will be equal to it.

John 10:10 says, “I have come that they might have life, life in all its fullness.” Dr. Peale asks, “Do you have life in all its fullness? I you haven’t that’s too bad. But something can happen right now that will make you so enthusiastic and excited that you will have life in all its fullness.” One thing that is important in having a life of this quality is to turn your life over to God and let Him do what He wants with it. NVP shares the stories of those who have done this and found enthusiasm and excitement in life.

Dr. Peale says that one of the smartest ways to outwit a problem is to help someone else with their problem because it takes your mind off your own and gives you the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping someone else. When you return to your problem, somehow it doesn’t seem as bad as it was when you started. He says, “Christianity and practical matters go together. Trust the Lord and He will bring it to pass and get you on top of the problem.”

Dr. Peale tells us, that we can live with self confidence on the basis of Philippians 4:13 which states, “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.” This is one of the greatest statements in the Bible. NVP says, “When you come right down to it, the thing that pulls people out of depression and negativism is the power of God.” Nothing in this world is equal to the power of God when it really gets operating in human beings. Dr. Peale shares several stories, including a personal one that illustrate this fact.

Dr. Peale tells us that all of us have felt hopeless at one time or another. But, he says, “Right away we suggest that it is possible to drop the hopeless idea because it is entirely unnecessary.” We can do this NVP tells us by remembering the words contained in Luke 24:49,“ …be endued with power from on high.” If we do we need never feel hopeless.

Dr. Peale tells us there is one sure thing in this life, you have to live as long as you are alive. So you might as well love life while you live it. That is another fact. But the most exciting fact is this; if you love life, life will love you back. Here NVP shares stories of people who did just that and gives several suggestions on how we can do the same.

Dr. Peale quotes Emerson who said, “Nothing great has ever been accomplished without enthusiasm.” NVP tells us that we can keep enthusiasm going all our lives no matter how long our lives may be, provided we have some enthusiasm to begin with. We can have an in depth enthusiasm that will stay with us all our lives and never erode. He shares the stories of some who have found this enthusiasm and how to get it.
